Bengaluru: The spouse of an assistant commissioner of police has accused her husband and a woman DySP of assaulting and issuing dire threats to her and alleged that her mother-in-law attempted to murder her. A complaint filed by Amruta Govardhan, 31, wife of ACP Govardhan Gopal, 38, presently serving with the South-East CEN police station has also named the woman DySP's father as an accused. A resident of Indiranagar, Amruta married Govardhan in 2014, and the couple has a daughter. Based on Amruta's complaint, High Grounds police booked Govardhan, his mother Gnanamani, the DySP and her father under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 109 (attempt to murder). According to Amruta's complaint, Govardhan changed while undergoing training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru in 2022 when he became close to the woman DySP. She said Govardhan began neglecting her and their daughter. She said when she objected to his relationship, he kicked her in the stomach and threatened to divorce her. She said she requested the DySP to stay away from her husband but the woman police officer threatened to frame her and her family in false criminal cases. "She announced that she would marry Govardhan after he divorces me. I brought the matter to the notice of Govardhan's parents. His father promised to solve the matter, but his mother shouted at me for revealing Govardhan's personal matters. One day, she poured kerosene on me, trying to set me ablaze. When I told them that I would file a police complaint, Govardhan and his father fell at my father's feet, seeking time to solve the issues," Amruta's complaint read. According to Amruta, the woman officer assaulted and threatened to kill her when she met her once to ask her to keep away from her husband. She said Govardhan also attempted to strangle her once. Amruta said that in Feb 2023, she complained to DG&IGP about the issue. "Sometime later, Govardhan was transferred to Chitradurga. But the woman met me and forced me to divorce my husband. I met the woman's father, seeking his help. But he threatened me, saying my family and I would be framed in false cases," her complaint said. Govardhan and the woman officer are from the batch that wrote the KPSC exams in 2011. Though the appointments were cancelled later over irregularities and corruption allegations, the duo was among the several people who entered the service in 2022 after securing favourable court orders.
