Starbucks' Workers Extend Strike To Cover More Cities In The US Including New York

Starbucks workers have now expanded their strike to cover four more cities in the US including New York. The Workers United Union, which represents more than 10,000 baristas, on Saturday said that the five-day strike began on Friday. The strike initially saw cafes of the beverage and coffee chain close in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago, reported Reuters. Now the strike has spread to New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and St Louis, the union said via a statement. However, the statement didn’t disclose the exact location of the New Jersey walkout. The strikes took place after negotiations between the company and the union hit a deadlock and issues regarding wages, schedules, and staffing remained unresolved. This strike comes during the busy holiday season which could have an impact on the coffee chain’s sales during Christmas. On Friday, the union cautioned that the strike could reach ‘hundreds of stores’ by Tuesday, which is also Christmas Eve.
